Hayden flinched against the brightness, his eyelids twitching as consciousness forced itself upon him. His head was pounding. A dull, persistent ache spread through his skull, clawing at his temples. His throat felt raw, his muscles stiff. The steady beeping of machines and the antiseptic sting in the air confirmed what his disoriented mind hadn't fully grasped yet. It took him a moment to realize that he's in hospital.
